ST. PAUL, Minn. - Sophomore Aliphine Tuliamuk led the Iowa State women's cross country team to a third-place team finish at the Roy Griak Invitational Saturday at the University of Minnesota's Les Bolstad Golf Course. The Cyclone women concluded the meet with 113 team points. The women's squad entered the meet ranked 15th nationally and first in the Midwest region. Arizona won the women's team crown with 76 points. New Mexico was second with 102 points. Iowa State's men's team placed seventh in a race won by Duke.
Tuliamuk finished fourth in the Women's Gold 6,000-meter race with a time of 20:59, earning four team points for the squad. Also contributing to the women's team points were Betsy Saina (6), Lucy Kennedy (13), Semehar Tesfaye (43), India Lee (47), Dani Stack (63), and Kellien Oettle (103).
The Iowa State men's squad was led by two-time All-American, senior Hillary Bor. His 11th-place finish would lead the Cyclone men to a seventh place team finish with 200 points. Entering the meet, the men were ranked 21st nationally and third in the Midwest region.
Bor's 11th place finish (24:37) in the Men's gold 8,000-meter race led the group of 12 Cyclone men. His finish would earn the group eleven team points.
Also contributing to the Cyclones' team score were Rico Loy (20), Ben Murphy-Baum (52), Isaac Chelimo (56), Charlie Paul (61), Clayton Carper (62), and Martin Coolidge (70).
The Cyclones will next see competition in three weeks at the Bradley Classic in Peoria, Ill., on October 15.
