AMES, Iowa - For the second time this season, Iowa State libero Kristen Hahn has been named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week the league office announced Monday. Hahn was previously honored during the week of Aug. 29.
The sophomore from Cedar Rapids recorded a whopping 6.86 digs per set as the No. 16 Cyclones downed Kansas State on the road (27-25, 25-21, 25-23) and defeated No. 22 Oklahoma at home (25-23, 25-17, 22-25, 25-19) last week. She also served up two aces against Oklahoma.
With 23 digs at Kansas State and 25 more against the Sooners, Hahn helped the Cyclones retake the top spot in the Big 12 standings while handing Oklahoma its first conference loss of the season and snapping the Sooners' eight-match win streak.
Against Big 12 opponents, Hahn is averaging a league-best 5.64 digs per set and has collected more than 20 digs in nine matches so far this season, including each of Iowa State's last three contests. Her 35 digs at Northern Illinois remains the conference standard this year.
Baylor's Briana Tolbert and Texas' Khat Bell earned nods for the league's top offensive and rookie performances of the week, respectively.
The Cyclones have a bye on Wednesday before getting back into action Saturday night at Hilton Coliseum against Baylor in the annual Dig Pink match. First serve is slated for 6:30 p.m. CDT.
