AMES, Iowa - For the second-straight week, Iowa State libero Kristen Hahn has been named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week. The honor is Hahn's fourth defensive award of the season.
Against Kansas State and Baylor last week, the Cedar Rapids native averaged 5.50 digs per set and picked up her sixth match of the season with more than 25 digs; grabbing 29 digs in Saturday's 3-2 win at Baylor. In the No. 13 Cyclones' sweep of Kansas State, Hahn totaled 15 digs, her ninth three-set match of the season with 15 or more digs.
With an average of 5.45 digs per set in Big 12 play this season, Hahn sits atop the league standings, as the second-ranked libero, Oklahoma's Maria Fernanda, averages 5.15 digs per set. Hahn's gaudy dig numbers have helped Iowa State to its league-leading average of 18.09 digs per set during the conference season, the only team averaging more than 18.00 digs per set.
Already this season, Hahn has dug 515 balls, ranked seventh all-time at Iowa State for digs in a single season. The sophomore is the only Cyclone to make it into the top 10 before playing 100 sets in a season. Hahn has played in 93 sets so far this season.
In addition to her defensive performances, Hahn added 1.00 assists per set against the Wildcats and Bears, including a five-assist contribution against Baylor, the fourth time this season she has recorded five assists in a match.
On Saturday, the Cyclones (22-4, 13-2 Big 12) close out the regular season at home against Texas A&M. The match will begin at 6:30 p.m. CDT with a ceremony honoring the four Cyclone seniors to follow.
