AMES, Iowa - Iowa State volleyball fans can get a sneak-peek of incoming Cyclones Mackenzie Bigbee and Andie Malloy Friday night, Dec. 16, when espn3.com airs a live broadcast of the 2011 Under Armour High School All-America Match at 8 p.m. CDT. The match and the skills competition will be replayed on ESPNU on Monday, Dec. 26 at 6 p.m.
A right side hitter from Williamsburg, Iowa, Bigbee won the 2011 USA Volleyball 18U Junior National Championship as a member of the Six Pack club team and was named the USAV 18U National Junior Olympic MVP for her part in the Six Pack's championship run, which included scoring the championship-winning kill. Bigbee led her high school conference with 5.84 kills per set and 3.90 digs per set for the Williamsburg Raiders this season and graduates holding school career records in kills, service aces, kills per set and digs per set.
Malloy, a native of Allen, Texas, is less than a month removed from winning her fourth-straight state championship at Lovejoy High School. The setter and outside hitter was named the championship tournament's MVP after posting 24 kills, including match point, 21 assists and 15 digs in the title match. As a senior, Malloy averaged 4.20 kills per set, 4.70 digs per set and 6.10 assists per set to be named an Under Armour First Team All-American.
About the match:
The two teams are split according to their hometown with Team East taking on Team West. Every All-American has committed to a Division I program, which means this is just a preview of match-ups they will surely have at the collegiate level and beyond.
