BOULDER, Colo.- Led by five players in double-figure scoring, including a team-high 19 points from Alec Burks, Colorado downed Iowa State 95-69 Tuesday night in Boulder, Colo. The Buffaloes shot 50 percent from the field while snapping a five-game losing skid.
Scott Christopherson led Iowa State with 24 points, his fourth 20-point output of the season, as the Cyclones fall to 14-9 overall and 1-7 in Big 12 play.
Iowa State was down by only 11 points (56-45) early in the second half after a Christopherson basket. However, a 17-3 run by Colorado put the game out of reach at 73-48 moments later.
Colorado jumped out to a 20-5 lead thanks to a 16-0 run in the early moments of the contest. The Cyclones battled back, however, mounting a 19-7 run to cut the lead to 27-24 with just under 10 minutes left in the first half.
Diante Garrett and Christopherson got hot from the outside, drilling a pair of 3-pointers each to aid the Cyclone run.
The run was brief, as the Buffaloes rattled off 17-straight points to make it 44-24. Garrett made two more 3-pointers to help the Cyclones cut the deficit to 15 points at the break, 49-34.
Garrett was 5-of-5 from 3-point range in the first half.
The Cyclones made 11 3-pointers in the game, their 10th game of the season with 10 or more 3-pointers. Christopherson finished the game with four treys. He now has made a 3-pointer in 25-straight games, the second-best streak in school history. Garrett tied a career high with five 3-pointers.
