Shots From the Heart Bracket AMES, Iowa – Iowa State head men's basketball coach
Fred Hoiberg advanced to the Elite Eight of the Shots From the Heart Tournament, a free-throw shooting contest involving Division I head coaches to help raise awareness for heart disease and generate money for the American Heart Association.
Hoiberg made all 25 free-throws (31 points) in his third round match vs. Minnesota's Tubby Smith. Smith made all of his free-throws as well, but Hoiberg advanced to the next round on a tiebreaker.
Hoiberg, who ranks fourth all-time in Iowa State history in career free-throw percentage at 84.4 percent, has made all 75 of his free-throws in the tournament. He will now meet New Mexico's Steve Alford in the Elite Eight. Alford also has made all 75 of his free-throws in the tournament.
“I have had a blast participating in the tournament,” Hoiberg said. “Obviously, it is for a great cause and I feel honored to be a part of it. As someone who lives with heart disease, I feel strongly of the importance of generating support and awareness for the American Heart Association. It's wonderful format for getting the coaches involved.”
