AMES, Iowa - Iowa State head men's basketball coach
Fred Hoiberg stresses daily the importance of academics with his student-athletes. His players have definitely gotten the message.
For the first time in the program's history, the Iowa State men's basketball team achieved a semester cumulative GPA of over a 3.0.
Eight of the 15 players totaled a 3.0 GPA or higher, including five players with a 3.5 GPA or above.
Hoiberg, a former first-team Academic All-American with the Cyclones, is extremely proud of his team's efforts in the classroom.
"From the first day I met with my players I told them the most important accomplishment I achieved in my career was receiving my degree from Iowa State," Hoiberg said. "Our players have taken their academics seriously and I want to thank our academic support staff for all the time and work they provide our student-athletes."
