AMES, Iowa - Last week a group from the Iowa State Athletics Department headed 15 miles west to Boone, Iowa to tour Mid-States Steel, which is responsible for constructing the structure that will support the high definition videoboard display and custom sound system at Jack Trice Stadium.
The job is no small task as the structure must support a videoboard that measures at 36.3 feet high x 158 feet wide. The weight of the video display and speakers is 67,050 pounds and the distance from the ground to the top of the structure is a staggering 101 feet.
Below are pictures of the construction of the steel tower that will support the west side of the display.
