AMES, Iowa - Iowa State incoming freshman Tavon Sledge has been invited to play in the prestigious Mary Kline Classic, an elite charity basketball showcase featuring 28 of the best high school players from around the Mid-Atlantic Region.
The Mary Kline Classic is a charitable event to raise money to fight cancer and all the money from the event will be donated to the American Cancer Society and the National Brain Tumor Foundation. The event will take place at the Pennington School in Pennington, N.J., on May 28.
Sledge, who prepped at Half Hollow Hills West in Spring Valley, N.Y., emerged as one of the best players in the New York City area in 2011. The 5-9 speedster was a two-time all-state selection and was selected as the third-best player in the New York area by NYHoops.com. He averaged 25.3 points and 5.2 points this past season.
Sledge joins John Johnson (Pittsburgh), Jabril Trawick (Georgetown), Angel Nunez (Louisville), Khem Birch (Pittsburgh), Todd Mayo (Marquette), Sidiki Johnson (Arizona), Maurice Harkless (St. John's), Tyler Harris (N.C. State), Derrick Randall (Rutgers), Aaron Brown (West Virginia) and Devin Coleman (Clemson) as players selected to the all-star game.
