BOONE, Iowa - Former Iowa State All-American center Ben Bruns is among the six former prep football greats that have been tabbed for the Players Hall of Fame this fall by the Iowa High School Athletics Association. The induction ceremonies will be at the half-time of the Class 4-A State Championship game on Nov. 18 in the UNI-Dome at Cedar Falls.
Bruns was a high school star at Denver. He was honored as the 1995 Des Moines Register Class 1-A Player of the Year. That fall, he led his prep team to an 11-2 record and a state team title. During his career at Denver, the teams he played on were 23-9.
Bruns was a third-team All-America choice at Iowa State by the Football News in 2000. He earned first-team all-Big 12 honors as a senior, helping lead Iowa State to a 9-3 record and a post-season victory over Pittsburgh in the Insight.com Bowl. He was also an academic All-Big 12 honoree.
