AMES, Iowa - Former Iowa State All-American center Ben Bruns will be inducted to the Iowa High Athletic Association Players Hall of Fame this fall. The following is a list of Iowa State football letterwinners who have previously been selected to the hall.
Don Anderson - Atlantic
Was the starting left tackle for the Cyclones during the 1962 season and won letters during the 1961 and 62 seasons.
John Arnaud - Sioux City
The 'Land Shark' was a four-year letterwinner for Iowa State in the defensive backfield, from 1979-82. John finished his Iowa State career with 97 tackles. He played for the Michigan Panthers (1983-84) and the Memphis Showboats (1985) in the now defunct USFL. Father of former Iowa State quarterback

Tony Baker - Burlington
'Touchdown Tony' was a letterwinner for the Cyclones in 1964 and 1965. Baker ran for 681 yards and six touchdowns at Iowa State. Played in the NFL for seven years for the Saints, Eagles, Rams and the Chargers.
Ed Bock - Fort Dodge
Iowa State's first consensus All-America selection, he was chosen in 1938 as a guard. Two-time Big Six selection and is the only Cyclone football player to be inducted into the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame. Bock was a letterwinner three times, from 1936-38. Played in multiple postseason all-star games and was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 1939. Chose not to play pro football and pursue further education. Ed was selected to the Iowa State Hall of Fame in 1997. The 1938 Cyclones are one of the greatest teams in Iowa State history, finishing the season at 7-1-1.
Ben Bruns - Denver
Bruns was a third-team All-America selection in 2000, and also a first-team All-Big 12 selection in the same year. He was also an All-Big 12 academic honoree. Bruns was given the Arthur Floyd Scott Award in 2000 as the best offensive lineman on the team. He helped lead the 2000 Iowa State team to a 9-3 record, including a 37-29 win over Pittsburgh in the Insight.com Bowl, Iowa State's first-ever bowl victory.
Mike Busch - North Scott
Busch was selected as a first-team All-American at tight end in 1989. He was also selected as a first-team All-Big Eight member that fall and a baseball All-American in 1990. He was the Big Eight Athlete of the Year in 1990. Was selected in the NFL and major league baseball drafts and chose to pursue his baseball career with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Busch was awarded the Ralph Aulmann Memorial Award in 1988, which is given to juniors who display leadership and academic excellence. Was a four-year letterwinner at tight end, from 1986-89. Mike was selected to the Iowa State Hall of Fame in 1997.
Tom Busch - Garner
Was one of the most versatile players in Iowa State history, seeing action as a receiver, tailback/halfback, punter, place-kicker, punt returner and kickoff returner. He was a standout kick returner and at the time of his graduation, ranked third on the all-time receiving list for Iowa State. When it was all said and done, he ended up with 1,295 receiving yards and he still ranks third in school history in kickoff return average at 24.7 yards per return. Busch lettered in 1965, 1967 and 1968.
Joe Bush - Davenport
Bush was a center on the 1947 team and lettered that year.
Bill Chauncey - Webster City
Was a four-year letterman for the Cyclones at fullback from 1946-49 and led the Cyclones in rushing in 1948 and 1949, racking up nearly 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns in those two seasons.
Mike Cox - Ames
Cox was named first-team All-Conference in 1964. Cox was awarded the Reuben J. Cox Award in 1964, recognizing conduct on and off the field. Cox was also given the Ralph Aulmann award in 1963, which is is earned by the junior that displays leadership and academic excellence. Cox was a three-time letterwinner, from 1962-64. Cox was a 1965 draft pick by the Kansas City Chiefs. He is the only Iowa State player to have his number (30) retired.
Jeff Dole - Grundy Center
Dole won the Al and Dean Knudson Award in 1987 and 1988, which is awarded to the outstanding defensive player on the team. He earned the Ralph Aulmann award in 1988, which is given to the junior that displays leadership and academic excellence. Dole was a letterwinner all four years that he played for the Cyclones, from 1985-88. Dole finished his Iowa State career with 259 tackles from the strong safety position. Was a member of the Chicago Bruisers in the Arena Football Leage in 1989.
Jim Doran - Beaver
Earned All-American honors in 1950 and was a two-time All-Big Seven selection. Doran held the school record for receiving yards in a game (203) for 34 years. Was a two-time letterwinner in 1949 and 1950. After high school, Doran was told by some that he was too slow to play college football. Played for 10 years in the NFL with the Detroit Lions and the Dallas Cowboys and was selected to participate in the Pro Bowl in 1960. Had two sons, Lant and Jim, play for Iowa State. Starting in 1991, the Jim Doran Award was given to the outstanding special teams performer at Iowa State. He was selected to the Iowa State Hall of Fame in 1997.
Dennis Gibson - Ankeny
Gibson lettered all four years that he played for the Cyclones, from 1983-86. He was awarded the Al and Dean Knudson award for outstanding defensive player in 1985 and 1986. He led the 1984 Cyclone team with three interceptions. Gibson was also a winner of the Ralph Aulmann Memorial Award in 1986, which is awarded to the junior who displayed leadership and academic excellence. Gibson finished his illustrious Iowa State career with 304 tackles. Was drafted by the Detroit Lions and played in the NFL for eight seasons. Famous in San Diego for making the "Immaculate Deflection" to advance the Chargers to the 1995 Super Bowl, breaking up a fourth-down Pittsburgh Steeler pass attempt in the game's final moments.
David Hoover - Dallas Center
Hoover was selected in the 1964 NFL Draft by St. Louis after being an Iowa State letterwinner from 1961-63. He was named first-team Academic All-Conference in 1963 and was also awarded the Reuben J. Miller Award in 1963, which is earned by the player whose conduct on and off of the field of play stamps him as having made the greatest contribution to Iowa State football that season. Hoover ran for 813 yards in his career and averaged nearly five yards per carry.
Merv Krakau - Guthrie Center
Was the first Cyclone to be selected as an All-American on the defensive side of the ball, in 1972. He was a three-time letterwinner from 1970-1972. Krakau was also selected as a first-team All-Big Eight performer as a senior. In his last two seasons as a Cyclone, Krakau racked up 177 tackles, an incredible number for a defensive end. He played five years in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots. Was selected to the Iowa State Hall of Fame in 2007. He was the Sports Illustrated National Player of the Week after Iowa State tied No. 3 Nebraska 23-23 on Nov. 11, 1972.
Chuck Lamson - Ames
Lamson lettered for the Cyclones in 1958 as a defensive back. Had a five year NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings and the Los Angeles Rams. Lamson's father Bob lettered in 1926 and 1927, and was a long-time Iowa State assistant coach in football and basketball.
Duane Marcellus - Humboldt
Played end for the Cyclones and lettered as a junior in 1960. Marcellus was a three-sport captain at Humboldt and garnered 13 letters in high school.
Jerry Moses - Waterloo
Jerry lettered for the Cyclones at tailback in 1972 and 1973. Sons Milan and J.J. both played for the Cyclones, with J.J. going on to play in the NFL.
Brian Neal - West Des Moines
Was a four-year letterwinner for the Cyclones from 1977-1981 at offensive guard. Neal was named the Big Eight Newcomer of the Year in 1977. He was selected national freshman lineman of the year in 1977. Neal is the father of current Cyclone
Patrick Neal and former Iowa State basketball player John Neal. Brian Neal played on Iowa State's Peach Bowl and Liberty Bowl teams.
Dwight Nichols - Knoxville
The captain of the famed 'Dirty Thirty' team was named an All-American at tailback during the 1959 season. A three-time All-Big Eight selection at tailback, Nichols lettered from 1957-1959. Nichols was the first Cyclone to rush for over 2,000 yards in a career, finishing with 2,232. He was an outstanding performer off the field as well, being named to the 1959 Big Eight all-academic team. Nichols was selected in the 1960 AFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. Nichols was named to the Iowa State Hall of Fame in 1999.
Tom Randall - Mason City
Randall was a first-team all-conference defensive tackle in 1977. He was a four-time letterwinner from 1974-1977 at the defensive tackle position. Was an academic all-conference selection in 1976 and 1977. Randall won the Al and Dean Knudson Award, signifying him as the outstanding defensive player for the Cyclones in 1977. He won the Ralph Aulmann Memorial Award in 1976 which is given to the junior who demonstrated leadership and academic excellence. In his two years as a starter, he anchored a pair of the best defenses in school history. Played two years in the NFL for the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Oilers. Randall will be inducted to the Iowa State Hall of Fame this fall.
Bruce Reimers - Humboldt
Reimers was named First-Team All-Big Eight at offensive tackle in 1983, despite missing four games that season. Won letters as an offensive tackle four times, from 1979-83. He was given the Arthur Floyd Scott Award as the team's best offensive lineman. Played 10 years in the NFL for the Cincinnati Bengals and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Selected to the Iowa State Hall of Fame in 2009.
Tom Roach - Rock Rapids
Was a four-year letterwinner for the Cyclones at fullback from 1978-81. Roach paved the way for teammate Dwayne Crutchfield to post back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons.
Clyde Shugart - Ames
Won letters in 1937 and 1938 as an offensive tackle. Was first-team all-conference at offensive tackle for the Cyclones in 1938. Played for six years in the NFL with the Washington Redskins, winning an NFL team title and playing on two Pro Bowl teams. The 1938 Cyclones are one of the greatest teams in Iowa State history, finishing the season 7-1-1. Selected to the Iowa State Hall of Fame in 2004.
Mike Stensrud - Lake Mills
Stensrud was a four-time letterwinner for Iowa State, winning letters in 1974 and 1976-1978. Was an All-American at defensive tackle in 1978 and a first-team All-Big Eight performer in 1977 and 1978. He won the Al and Dean Knudson Award in 1978 as the team's outstanding defensive player. In his last two Iowa State seasons, Stensrud garnered over 200 tackles and forced six fumbles from his defensive tackle position. Stensrud played for 11 years in the NFL with the Houston Oilers, Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Redskins. His son Andy played as a lineman and a tight end for the Cyclones. Mike Stensrud was selected to the Iowa State Hall of Fame in 2000.
Marv Walter - Farragut
Walter won letters for the Cyclones from 1955-1957. In 1956, Walter carried the ball 56 itmes for 191 yards and two touchdowns from his fullback position. He also caught a pair of passes for seven yards.
