LUBBOCK, Texas - Head Iowa State coach Christy Johnson-Lynch notched her 136th win on Saturday, making her the winningest head volleyball coach in school history, as the No. 16 Cyclones (11-2, 2-0 Big 12) defeated Texas Tech (13-2, 0-1) 25-16, 25-18, 25-16.
Strong blocking by the Cyclones stifled Tech's offense from the start. The Red Raiders hit .049 on the day while Iowa State posted 18 block assists including seven by Tenisha Matlock and five by Carly Jenson, both career-highs.
Jenson led the team in kills for the eighth time this season with 16 kills and 12 digs in the match. Hannah Willms added 10 kills and Alison Landwehr provided another double-double with 41 assists and 11 digs. Libero Kristen Hahn had 22 digs.
Amanda Dowdy had 10 kills and 10 digs to pace Texas Tech.
The Cyclones hit .281 in set one and were helped by 11 Texas Tech errors on their way to a 1-0 lead. Iowa State elevated its offense in game two, hitting .306 behind Jenson who had eight kills in the set and led all players with 12 kills as the teams headed to the locker rooms.
Set three belonged to the Cyclones who didn't allow a tie or lead change while picking up three blocks and hitting .237. The Red Raiders had no hitting percentage during the final set as the Cyclones completed the sweep.
On Wednesday the Cyclones are in Lawrence, Kan. to play the Jayhawks at 6:30 p.m. CDT.
