BOSTON, Mass. - Iowa State sophomore forward
Royce White earned this week's Lute Olson Award as the national player of the week, announced yesterday by collegeinsider.com.
The award is named in honor of coaching great Lute Olson, who won 780 games in 34 seasons.
White averaged 16.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists last week. He tallied his sixth double-double of the year with 15 points and 15 boards at Texas. He followed that game with an 18-point, 9-rebound performance in a 72-64 win over No. 5 Kansas on Saturday.
White, who tallied five assists vs. KU, scored eight points in the final five minutes to help the Cyclones end a 13-game losing streak to the Jayhawks. It was ISU's first win over a top-five opponent at home since 1995.
White currently leads Iowa State in points (13.6), rebounds (9.6), assists (4.5) and blocks (1.1).
