AMES, Iowa - The college basketball nation has had a day to let yesterday's events sink in. Certainly one of the topics rehashed today is Iowa State's Royce White's amazing performance vs. Texas A&M. White produced one of the greatest stat lines in the Cyclone annals, but more importantly, provided the spark to help Iowa State come away with a surprisingly easy 74-50 win in College Station, Texas.
White posted just the fourth triple-double in Iowa State history, and the first in a road game, with 10 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists to help the Cyclones end an eight-game losing streak to the Aggies. Heading into the weekend, there had been a total of seven triple-doubles recorded in NCAA Division I play this season. The Minneapolis, Minn., native is now the eighth player this year to accomplish the feat: Keegan Bell (Chattanooga), T.J. McConnell (Duquesne), D.J. Cooper (Ohio), Kenny Gabriel (Auburn), Shabazz Napier (UConn), Jake Odum (Indiana State), P.J. Roberson (Grambling).
"It's something that's just fun," White said after the game. "I'm proud of my teammates, because without them, it doesn't happen. Getting 10 assists is not easy. It doesn't happen without your teammates knocking down big shots."
Triple-doubles don't happen every day, and when they do, they need to be appreciated. Since the Big 12 was formed in 1996-97, there have been a total of 12 triple-doubles. However, of the 12 monster stat-stuffing lines, only six have occurred vs. Big 12 competition. White is included in the "Super Six," along with two other former Cyclones.
