AMES, Iowa – Iowa State opened Big 12 competition with a 6–1 loss against No. 8 Texas Friday afternoon at the Forker Tennis Courts. The Cyclones' record drops to 3-11, 0-1 in conference, and the Longhorns improve to 8-4, 1-0 in Big 12 play.
Simona Cacciuttolo tied her No. 3 singles match up after she came back from a 6-0 loss in the first set. She won 7-5 to even the playing field, and fought hard for a 7-6 victory from a 10-8 tiebreaker to take the win.
Texas clinched the match after No. 75 Krista Damico's 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles over Maria Macedo. Jenna Langhorst and Meghan Cassens fell at No. 5 and No. 4 respectively, and it was after these losses and the doubles point that Texas took the win.
The doubles matches went in favor of the Longhorns despite a big comeback from Marie-Christine Chartier and Tessa Lang at No. 3. The duo came back from a 6-3 deficit in the tiebreaker to take the win over Juliana Gajic and Elizabeth Begley 8-7 (8-6).
Iowa State continues its home court matches when the team hosts Texas A&M on Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m.
