DES MOINES, Iowa – Iowa State overpowered Drake Friday night at the Bulldogs' Breast Cancer Awareness match at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center. The Cyclones clinched a 5-2 win, which improves their season record to 3-8 and drops Drake to 11-3.
For the first time this season, Iowa State swept all three doubles contests. Simona Cacciuttolo and Ksenia Pronina wrapped up No. 2 doubles with an 8-3 win over Amanda Aragon and Nell Boyd. The Cyclone duo's win was quickly followed by the No. 3 pair of Marie-Christine Chartier and Tessa Lang, who added an 8-4 win over Drake's Ali Patterson and Klavdija Rebol. Jenna Langhorst and Maria Macedo, representing Iowa State at the No. 1 slot, finished out the Cyclone sweep, controlling No. 1 doubles 8-6.
The match was clinched in Iowa State's favor when Meghan Cassens, a freshman, wrapped up her No. 4 singles contest against Boyd, 6-2, 6-3. Cassens' victory followed wins from Macedo at No. 1 and Langhorst at No. 5, and Simona Cacciuttolo chalked up the final Iowa State victory in the No. 3 spot.
