LUBBOCK, Texas – Junior
Simona Cacciuttolo continued her hot play with a straight-set win over Texas Tech's Rashmi Teltumbde, the nation's 120th-ranked player, but Iowa State was unable to dash the Lady Raiders' Big 12 championship hopes Sunday in Lubbock, falling 5-2 to the hosts.
Iowa State (4-17, 1-7 Big 12) got wins from Cacciuttolo and senior
Maria Fernanda Macedo at the No. 1 singles slot. Macedo beat Texas Tech's Elizabeth Ullathorne, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0, before Cacciuttolo's 6-4, 6-2 win over Teltumbde. Cacciuttolo has now won four-straight Big 12 singles matches.
Texas Tech (18-4, 8-1) managed to take the doubles point to open the match, winning all three contests.
The match was clinched by the Lady Raiders at No. 4 singles as Caroline Starck held off Iowa State's
Meghan Cassens 6-1, 6-2.
The Cyclones return to action Monday at Baylor at 5 p.m.
