AMES, Iowa – The No. 5 Iowa State women's cross country team is looking to keep its first- place Midwest Regional ranking going Saturday at the Roy Griak invitational. The races will take place on the Les Bolstad Golf course in Falcon Heights, Minn.
"It's imperative to run against teams that are ranked and teams outside our region," Ihmels said. "The women will contend with Minnesota and Weber State, which is ranked No. 1 in the Mountain Region. The Minnesota men are ranked nationally, which gives us an opportunity to see just where we are right now."
The Cyclone women's team earned first place at the Roy Griak meet last year after a winning tiebreaker with California with a total of 128 points. The Cyclones are ranked first in the Midwest Region. Prior to last year's victory, the women last won the Griak team title in 2009. The Iowa State men's team finished sixth in last year.
The women's race is scheduled to start at 12:20 p.m. CDT and the men's at 1:10 p.m. Results can be found on Cyclones.com at the conclusion of the meet.
