AMES, Iowa - Iowa State head coach Fred Hoiberg has always stressed proper spacing as a key component for offensive efficiency. Since he took over the reins of the program in 2010-11, ISU's offense has evolved around outstanding shooters who space the floor and make the extra pass to find the open man.
Hoiberg's scheme is working. The Cyclones ranked in the top-50 nationally in scoring his first two seasons and currently rank 10th in the nation in points per game at 78.6 ppg.
Three-point shooting is the catalyst of Hoiberg's offense. ISU currently ranks sixth nationally in 3-pointers per game (9.1) and produced the top-two 3-point shooting seasons in school history in the first two years of the Hoiberg era.
The Cyclones' top four 3-point shooters, Chris Babb (183), Korie Lucious (132), Tyrus McGee (102) and Will Clyburn (82), have a combined 499 3-pointers made at the Division I level.
