Cyclones Defeat Portland, 5-2

SEATTLE, Wash. - The Iowa State tennis team started the weekend with a victory over the Portland Pilots. Iowa State (2-5, 0-0 Big 12) defeated Portland (5-6, 0-1 WCC) by a score of 5-2.

The Cyclones got off to a great start by sweeping the doubles point.

Ksenia Pronina and Jenna Langhorst teamed up to win the No. 1 doubles point, 8-3. Simona Cacciuttolo and Caroline Andersen won against Anastasia Polyakova and Sabine Fuchs, 8-6. The Cyclones completed the doubles sweep with a victory from Ana Gasparovic and Meghan Cassens. The duo won a very competitive match over Mladenovic/Cubbelli, 9-8 (5).

Ksenia Pronina gave the Cyclones their first singles point with a straight-set win against Sabine Fuchs, 6-1, 6-2, in the No.2 singles match.

The dual appeared to be competitive after the Cyclones dropped two consecutive single matchups at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. However, Iowa State went on to win the final three team points on the day.

Jenna Langhorst defeated Tori Troesch, 6-3, 6-4. Meghan Cassens secured the Cyclones a team victory with a win over Valeska Hoath at the No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-2. Emma Waites closed out the day with a win over Dhatt Saroop, 7-5, 0-6, 6-3.

Iowa State is back in action tomorrow against Washington with play starting at 1 p.m. CT.
