LAWRENCE, Kansas - Iowa State (8-13, 1-8 Big 12) wrapped up its regular season losing a close dual, 4-3, against Kansas (10-9, 2-7 Big 12) on Sunday afternoon.
The duo of Simona Cacciuttolo and Meghan Cassens won their third consecutive match with a 8-7 (5) win over Dylan Windom and Maria Jose Cardona. The Cyclones were unable to get another doubles victory and dropped the point to the Jayhawks.
Cacciuttolo followed up her doubles victory with a win at No. 1 singles. The senior won the first set in quick fashion, 6-1, before her opponent Maria Belen Luduena had to retire.
Ana Gasparovic and Emma Waites both secured a team point for the Cyclones. Gasparovic defeated Anastasija Trubica, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 5 singles.
At No. 6 singles, Waites came back to win a three-set match over Victoria Khanevskaya. After losing the initial set, 3-6, Waites was able to win the next two sets 6-1, 6-4.
The Cyclones will compete at the Big 12 Championships April 25-28 next week.
