AMES, Iowa – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has chosen Iowa State head volleyball coach Christy Johnson-Lynch as the President Elect of its Board of Directors, while taking over as President in 2016, the AVCA announced Friday. Johnson-Lynch will take on her role on Jan. 1, 2015.
Johnson-Lynch will serve as the AVCA President Elect for one year, President for two years and Past President for one year.
“There are a lot of exciting, and also challenging, things happening in college athletics and college volleyball right now,” Johnson-Lynch said. “I am excited to be a part of the leadership at the AVCA, and hopefully contribute any way I can.”
This is not Johnson-Lynch's first time working with the Coaches Association. From 2008-10, she represented ISU's region on the AVCA All-American committee. In 2009, Johnson-Lynch was named the AVCA Central Region Coach of the Year.
In her 10th season at Iowa State, Johnson-Lynch has turned around the fortunes of the Iowa State volleyball program. The Cyclones are one of 15 programs to make the past eight NCAA Volleyball Championships. She has led ISU to five NCAA Regional Semifinal Appearances, two times making it to the Regional Final in 2008 and 2011.
Johnson-Lynch and the Cyclones play on Sunday against No. 5 Texas at 2 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum. The match will be televised on ESPNU.
