AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State softball team unveiled its 57-game spring 2015 schedule Thursday. The slate consists of 23 home games, 16 games against teams that made the 2014 NCAA Softball Tournament and six games against teams that made it to the Women's College World Series..
For the fifth season in a row, the 2015 slate will begin inside the Bergstrom Football Complex with games from Feb. 6-8. ISU will open the season against Utah State on Feb. 6 at 5:30 p.m. and will play the Aggies again on Feb. 7 in the first game of a doubleheader at noon. The Cyclones will play South Dakota State to close out the Saturday doubleheader at 2:30 p.m. ISU and the Jackrabbits will play again on Sunday, Feb. 7, at 11:30 a.m.
Iowa State then hits the road for five consecutive weekend tournaments, starting with the Battle at the Beach, hosted by Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C Feb. 13-15. The Cyclones will play two games against Ole Miss and hosts Coastal Carolina along with playing a game against St. Bonaventure. The next weekend, the Cyclones travel to San Antonio to take part in UTSA's tournament, which will consist of games against Incarnate Word, hosts UTSA and Southeastern Louisiana from Feb. 20-21.
The Cyclones then take consecutive trips out West, starting on Feb. 27-March 1 with the San Diego Classic, hosted by San Diego State. ISU's game against the host Aztecs on Feb. 28 will be its first game of the season against at 2014 NCAA Softball Tournament squad. ISU will also take on UC-Davis, North Dakota, Cal Poly and Grand Canyon. The Cyclones return West March 6-8 at the Rebel Classic for games against California, hosts UNLV, 2014 NCAA Tournament team Houston, UC-Santa Barbara and Eastern Kentucky.
ISU's final road non-conference tournament will be the Michele Smith Spring Break Tournament hosted by South Florida. The Cyclones will play Boston and hosts USF on South Florida's campus before playing the final three games against St. Joseph's, Massachusetts and Rutgers in Clearwater, Fla.
ISU's first games at the Cyclone Sports Complex is on March 21 with a doubleheader against South Dakota. Iowa State will play another doubleheader the next day against Miami (OH) before welcoming Nebraska for a game on March 25.
ISU's first Big 12 series will be at 2014 WCWS participant Oklahoma Apr. 3-4. ISU's first home Big 12 series will be against Oklahoma State Apr. 10-12. ISU's other Big 12 series are at Texas (Apr. 17-19), at Baylor (Apr. 24-26) and home against Texas Tech (May 1-3) and Kansas (May 8-10).
Among Iowa State's notable non-conference games include in-state showdowns against UNI (Apr. 1 in Ames), Drake (Apr. 8 in Ames, Apr. 21 in Des Moines) and the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series game in Iowa City on Apr. 15. ISU will also host Omaha (Apr. 22) and Green Bay (Apr. 29) at the Cyclone Sports Complex.
The NCAA Regionals will be May 15-17, followed by Super Regionals on May 22-24. The Women's College World Series will be in Oklahoma City, Okla. and take place from May 28-June 3.
