AMES, Iowa – Iowa State dropped a 34-31 decision to Texas Tech Saturday at Jack Trice Stadium despite a season-best 569 yards on offense. With the loss, Iowa State drops to 2-8 overall and 0-7 in conference play. Texas Tech improves to 4-7 overall and 2-6 in conference action.
Keys of the Game
In a back-and-forth affair, Texas Tech made the big play with 4:07 left when Patrick Mahomes hit Kenny Williams out of the backfield and the running back scampered 44 yards for the go-ahead score. The Cyclones were able to move it past midfield on the ensuing drive, but the offense stalled at the Red Raiders' 31-yard line.
The game had plenty of offense, with ISU picking up 569 yards, including a season-high 265 on the ground. Texas Tech finished with 600 yards.
Offensive Players of Note...
Iowa State's rushing attack of Aaron Wimberly (102) and DeVondrick Nealy (87) combined for 189 yards on the ground. Nealy's career-best 87 yards came on just seven carries and Wimberly topped the century mark for the fourth time in his career. Wimberly also had two rushing touchdowns.
Jarvis West matched a career-high with seven receptions, all in the first half. Mackey Award semifinalist E.J. Bibbs had five catches for 43 yards a touchdown, his eighth this season and the 10th of his career. Tad Ecby had two big grabs of 51 yards and 49 yards, finishing with 100 yards in the game.
Sam Richardson was 24-of-38 passing for 304 yards and two touchdown passes, one to Tyler Brown and the other to Bibbs.
Defensive Players of Note...
Junior Dale Pierson finished with a career-high seven tackles, picking up his first sack and fumble recovery as a Cyclone.
Nigel Tribune had his third interception of the season, while T.J. Mutcherson finished with a team-high nine tackles. Cory Morrissey recorded a sack, his sixth this season, and forced a fumble.

*Tyler Brown scored his first touchdown of his career on an 11-yard reception from Sam Richardson in the second quarter.
*Jarvis West caught seven passes in the first half.
*Morrissey's six sacks this season ties him for 10th in a single-season.
*Sam Richardson went over 4,000 career passing yards and 2,000 this season. Richardson has completed 212 passes this season, which is the sixth-most in a single season at Iowa State.
*Bibbs has caught a pass in 22 consecutive games, tying him for the second-best streak in school history.
