AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State volleyball team won the replayed fifth set of its Oct. 18 match against Texas Tech Wednesday afternoon at Hilton Coliseum. The set, which was a replay of the protested fifth set from the match in Lubbock last month, saw ISU move to 16-9 overall, 8-6 in the Big 12.
The match resumed with the Cyclones behind 8-5 in the frame and Jenna Allen put Tech ahead 9-5. The Cyclones used a 3-0 run, behind a pair of Ciara Capezio kills, moved ISU to within 9-8. After Capezio errored to make it 10-8 TTU, the Cyclones took the next four points behind a pair of Morgan Kuhrt kills, a Tory Knuth kill and a Capezio ace to move ahead 12-10.
An Alexis Conaway kill brought up match point at 14-13, but Tech fought it off with a Meghan Stacy kill. Conaway brought up a second match point, but Mackenzie Bigbee saw her shot go wide to tie it again at 15-15. Capezio posted another kill to give ISU a third match point, but Tech fought it off again via a Mikia Mills kill. Iowa State got its fourth match point via a big Mackenzie Bigbee kill. Kuhrt recorded her third kill of the resumption with a big kill down the line to give ISU the win.
Iowa State and Texas Tech will play their originally scheduled match tonight at 6:30 p.m. inside Hilton Coliseum.
