AMES, Iowa – No. 20 Iowa State (4-1) overcome a sluggish start with a 16-0 run late in the first half in its 96-59 victory over Lamar (2-5) Tuesday night Hilton Coliseum.
After beginning the game hitting just 7-of-24 from the field (29.2 pct.), the Cyclones heated up by finishing the contest connecting on 64.4 percent of their shots.
Bryce Dejean-Jones, who posted his second double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 boards, tallied 10 points and nine caroms in the opening period to help jumpstart the Cyclones. Dejean-Jones again flirted with a triple-double by chipping in with a career-high eight assists.
Monte' Morris stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, six assists, five steals and two blocks. His steal and block totals were career highs.
Georges Niang added 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor in just 22 minutes of action.
How it happened…
The game came down to ISU's decisive 16-0 run in the first half. Prior to the run, the Cyclones were down three points after a Dontavious Sears trey gave Lamar a 20-17 lead with 8:24 left in the opening period.
The Cyclones were mired in a shooting slump, hitting just 7-of-24 shots from the floor, including just 2-of-14 from long range.
Dustin Hogue started the run with a lay-in and Matt Thomas later hit a pair of treys. In just a four-minute span, the Cyclones made 7-of-8 shots and were holding a commanding 33-20 lead with 4:01 left before the break.
The Cyclones soon increased their lead to 62-36 early in the second half behind by four triples from Naz Long. Iowa State made nine second-half 3-pointers en route to a season-high 13 treys.
Iowa State posted 16 steals in the game, its highest total of the season and the most since recording 16 at Nebraska on Feb. 8, 2005.

Monte' Morris. The Cyclone point guard did all the little things right to pace the Cyclones in the victory. He scored just eight points, but handed out six assists and tallied a career-high five steals, two shy from the single-game school record. He also posted a career-high two blocks.
