AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State Tennis team (8-10, 0-5 Big 12) lost, 5-2, Friday to No. 57 TCU (9-9, 2-2 Big 12) at Ames Racquet and Fitness Center.
The Cyclones won the early doubles point over the Horned Frogs. After a loss at No. 1 doubles, freshman Lydia Green and junior Caroline Andersen scored the win, 8-2, over Sofika Khadzhaya and Sandra Ibarra at No. 3 for the split.
At the No. 2 doubles spot, sophomore Ana Gasparovic and junior Meghan Cassens paired up to defeat Monika Sirilova and Simona Parajova, 8-7(3), in an exciting tiebreaker to clinch the doubles point.
"The minute the tiebreak started we played more aggressively," head coach Armando Espinosa said. "It's one of those things that we need to take advantage when we get the opportunity."
In singles action, freshman Talisa Merchiers took down Sandra Ibarra in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.
Cassens fought another exciting match at No. 3 singles, losing in a third-set tiebreaker to Khadzaya, 5-7, 6-2, 1-0(8).
"We need to keep pushing hard and get back at it on Sunday," Espinosa said.
The Cyclones are set to take on Texas Tech Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Forker Tennis Courts.
