AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State soccer team fell 2-1 to the Omaha Mavericks in an exhibition game Friday night at the Cyclone Sports Complex. Tonight's game was a tune-up before the Cyclones kick off the regular season with a trip to Starkville, Mississippi to take on Mississippi State Friday, August 22nd.
Turning point of the game
With the game tied 1-1 in the 59th minute, Omaha's Chelsi Rohloff found Courtney Neville for the go ahead goal that proved to be the game-winner. The game went back and forth, but the Cyclones were unable to find the net and tie the game.
The Cyclones had a chance at the equalizer in the final minutes, but an offsides call removed the tying goal scored by Margaret Powers. With under one minute remaining Iowa State fired multiple shots at the Omaha goal, but came up short on every occasion.
Cyclone game ball goes to
Maribell Morales. The freshman put on a show, displaying multiple nifty moves that put the Cyclones in position to score. Morales also scored Iowa State's lone goal in the 18th minute. The freshman led the Cyclones with 3 shots.
