Each day a member of the Iowa State women's basketball team will write a blog detailing our adventures in Italy. In today's blog, senior Nikki Moody details our second day in Lake Como, Italy. To follow along on our journey even more closely, please follow @CycloneWBB.
Bonjour/Ciao
It is GAME DAY, but first we traveled to Switzerland!
It was a cloudy day in Lake Como this morning and a little chilly. We loaded the bus and headed towards Switzerland. While en route to Switzerland our tour guide explained the guidelines of passing through security to get into Switzerland and their strict rules. The security stop lasted no longer than 15 minutes and we were on our way. She also explained that along the Italian-Swiss border your next door neighbor could be Switzerland or Italian on either side since the houses were so close together.
In Switzerland, three different languages are spoken as students have to learn Italian, French and German.
Our guide took is to the Santa Maria degli Angeli Church and showed us Jesus' last supper painting as well as the crucification, this church was smaller than all the other ones we have toured but the same rules applied, no shoulders and no legs!
Swiss money is completely different than Euros, they are called Franks over here. the bills are so colorful and the coins are so thin! I Tried to pay with my card at Burger King and they told me I had to spend above 10 Franks in order to swipe (which is almost $20 in American money). They are the same in the fact that you walk around with your bag weighing you down with so many coins...makes me appreciate the dollar bill a lot more that's for sure!
We then headed back to the hotel for some rest time before our match as the Italians would say! Its noon in Switzerland as I'm writing this, 6 a.m. back home, so back to sleep I go! We wrapped up our final game here with a convincing 98-66 win over Chemcats Chemnitz!
Hopefully the sun will come out for a while and we can enjoy the beach tomorrow as we take a boat tour across Lake Como! Stay tuned tomorrow as Nakiah Bell discussed our final day in Lake Como, Italy.
