LAWRENCE, Kansas – The Iowa State men's cross country team took fifth place at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Midwest Regional Friday afternoon at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, Kansas. The Cyclones, ranked No. 6 in the Midwest Region coming into the meet, finished with a team score of 157 points.
The Cyclone men were led by an All-Midwest Region performance from Nathan Rodriguez. The sophomore steadily worked his way up the field before finishing in 23rd place in 30:39.7. This marks Rodriguez's first All-Region award.
Iowa State's scoring lineup put up a strong performance, with all of ISU's five scorers working their way through the field to finish in the top-37. Christian DeLago was the second Cyclone across the line in 30:49.2, and Josef Andrews finished 33rd in 31:00.1. Brian Llamas and Toby Hardwick were 35th and 37th, respectively.
With Iowa State finishing fifth and Iowa finishing 15th, the Cyclones picked up another two points in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series. Combined with the ISU women's two points earlier today, the Cyclones have cut Iowa's lead in the Cy-Hawk Series to 7-4.
