MANHATTAN, Kansas – Iowa State fell 38-35 to Kansas State on Saturday afternoon, as K-State kicker Jack Cantele converted a 42-yard field goal with three seconds left in the game.
The Cyclones got on the board first with a Trever Ryen 21-yard TD catch from Joel Lanning, as the Cyclones tallied the first points for the fifth time in the last six games.
After KSU evened the score at 7-7, the Cyclones took the lead again after a key forced fumble by Brian Mills deep in KSU territory. Lanning scored moments later on a 4th-and-goal run at the 1-yard line to put ISU up 14-7
With ISU leading 21-14, the Cyclones tallied two 2nd quarter TDs to go into the half with a 35-14 lead. Mike Warren busted out with a career-long 76-yard TD rush. Lanning then hit Lazard for a TD for the second time in the opening period on a 16-yard toss.
It was all Kansas State in the second half, however. The Wildcats had the ball first to start the third quarter and put together a 12-play 67-yard touchdown drive, culminating in an 8-yard Charles Jones touchdown run. The Wildcats would tack on two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter, including another touchdown run for Jones with 42 seconds left in the game to knot the score at 35-35.
Attempting to put together one final drive in regulation, Lanning was forced from the pocket and fumbled with 10 seconds remaining. K-State recovered, setting up Cantele's game-winner to seal the Wildcat comeback.
