AMES, Iowa – Iowa State quarterback Jaylen Raynor was named to the Davey O'Brien Great 8 list for Week 9. The Davey O'Brien Award, given annually to the best quarterback in college football, recognizes eight quarterbacks each week for their outstanding on-field performances.
Raynor had perhaps his best game as a Cyclone Saturday in Iowa State's 51-49 upset over No. 24 Oklahoma State. He completed 18-of-28 passes for a season-high 309 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed a season-high 12 times for 48 yards and a touchdown, in the win against the Cowboys.
With less than a minute remaining in the fourth quarter and Iowa State trailing by a point, Raynor led ISU on a five-play, 47-yard game-winning drive in 0:53 to put the Cyclones in field goal range. It was his 10th-career game-winning drive, most among all FBS quarterbacks (no one else has more than seven).
Raynor had six completions of 20-plus yards in the game and now has nine-career games with three touchdown passes.
Raynor and the Cyclones are back on the road Saturday at Baylor. Kickoff in Waco is set for 11 a.m. on FS1.
