CYCLONES vs. COWBOYS
The Cyclones and Cowboys are set to meet on the gridiron for the 60th time in history, including for the 31st time in Ames. ISU has won two-straight meetings at Jack Trice Stadium.
The Cyclones won a 20-13 contest last season in Stillwater in the season finale for both teams. Iowa State owned a 233-27 rushing edge in that game while Kyle Konrardy knocked through field goals from 45 and 34 yards.
Oklahoma State enters Jack Trice Stadium as the No. 24 team in the nation. Twice in the last 15 years Iowa State has defeated top-10 Cowboys teams at home, most memorably when the Cyclones turned the college football world upside down with a 37-31 win in double overtime against the No. 2 Pokes as 27-point underdogs. The result, which helped send Alabama to the 2011 national championship game, is said by many to be the final nail in the coffin for the BCS system.

SCOUTING THE COWBOYS
After not winning a conference game in 2024 or 2025, first-year head coach Eric Morris has No. 24 Oklahoma State heading in the right direction. The Cowboys have won five of their last six, including a win over No. 6 Oregon, following a disappointing season-opening loss to Tulsa. Morris brought in more than 40 new staff members and 91 new players during the offseason.
The OSU offense is one of the nation's most prolific, having scored 30-plus points in six-straight games. The Cowboys average 529.1 yards per game, which is the second-best mark in FBS. Quarterback Drew Mestemaker has one of the best arms in the country, having thrown for 200 yards in 22-consecutive games, the nation's longest active streak. He's thrown for 300 yards in six-straight games. Standing at 6-5, 215 pounds, Mestemaker ranks second nationally with 2,326 passing yards this season. Wide receivers Wyatt Young (36 REC, 639 YDS, 6 TD) and Justin Bowick (34 REC, 607 YDS, 7 TD) are his favorite targets. On the ground, running back Caleb Hawkins keeps the offense balanced and has totaled more than 100 yards from scrimmage in six of OSU's seven games.
Defensively, Oklahoma State is allowing only 3.7 yards per carry, its best since the 2021 season. The Cowboys are a top-25 red zone defense, allowing scores on just 76 percent of opponents' trips to the red zone. Additionally, OSU has seven interceptions on the season, a top-30 mark nationally. Linebacker Ethan Wesloski has an argument for being one of the best linebackers in the country to this point, ranking fourth nationally and second in the Big 12 averaging 10 tackles per game.

ISU vs. RANKED FOES
Iowa State has faced four teams that were ranked in the Top-25 of the AP Poll at kickoff. Saturday's game will be the fifth against a Top-25 opponent.
The Cyclones are playing their third-straight nationally-ranked opponent in the same season for the first time since 2013. In the Big 12 era (since 1996) this is just the ninth time ISU has played five ranked foes in a season.
BIT BY THE INJURY BUG
Iowa State has been bitten by the injury bug among players they expected to be starters or key contributors. Through seven games, ISU has lost double-digit players for the season. The Cyclones are down four of their expected top six receivers heading into fall camp.
Due to those injuries, ISU has 16 first-time college starters this season, the fourth-most nationally.
