IRVING, Texas - The Big 12 Conference announced its 2015 Academic All-Big 12 cross country teams this afternoon, honoring nine Iowa State student-athletes. Evelyne Guay highlighted the Cyclone honorees, as one of 16 student-athletes in the conference to be nominated with a 4.00 grade point average.
Two Cyclone men earned academic recognition, as Josef Andrews (So., Liberal Studies) garnered First-Team accolades, while Christian DeLago (Jr., Liberal Studies) was named to the Second Team.
On the women's side, seven Cyclones were named to the All-Big 12 First Team in Abby Caldwell (Rfr., Finance), Katherine DeSimone (Gr., Kinesiology & Health), Guay (RFr., Kinesiology & Health), Erin Hooker (RSo., Journalism & Mass Communications), Maryn Lowry (Jr., Kinesiology & Health), Perez Rotich (Jr., Environmental Studies) and Andrea Toppin (RSr. Kinesiology & Health/Liberal Studies) represented the Cardinal & Gold.
A total of 51 student-athletes were honored on the men's team, while 70 student-athletes make up the women's team. 101 of the 121 selections are first team honorees. Four men's teams totaled seven total members - Baylor, Kansas, TCU and Texas Tech. West Virginia paced the women's teams with 12 selections, all of which are first team honorees. Kansas led all teams with a combined 15 members between the men's and women's squads.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
