- Iowa State heads to the Emerald Coast Classic with a 3-0 record after a 20-point win against previously unbeaten Chattanooga on Monday night in Ames...first-year head coach Steve Prohm will try to become the fifth ISU coach to lead the Cyclones to a 4-0 mark in their initial season.
- The Cyclones had a number of impressive individual performances against the Mocs...for the third time in as many games this season, ISU had a different leading scorer... Nazareth Mitrou-Long scorched the nets with a 6-for-9 performance from 3-point range to lead the way with 24 points... Georges Niang had 19 points and Monté Morris recorded his second career double-double with 14 points and 10 assists.
- One game after scoring a career-high 25 points, senior Jameel McKay crashed the glass and posted a career-best 17-rebound performance against the Mocs...McKay is now averaging 13.7 points and 12.7 rebounds and has grabbed double-figure boards in seven of his last 10 games dating back to last season.
- Mitrou-Long helped the Cyclones get going from long distance after a slow start to the season behind the arc...ISU had hit just 10 threes in its first two games, but hit 14-of-29 threes against Chattanooga...the Cyclones are shooting 37.5 percent on threes this season.

- Iowa State and ACC foe Virginia Tech will meet for just the second time...Virginia Tech won the only other meeting, an 80-53 romp in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1984...Jeff Hornacek led the Cyclones with 14 points in that game...Perry Young, who went on to play one NBA season, led Virginia Tech with 28 points.
