Cyclones Fall To No. 2 Iowa, 33-6

AMES, Iowa – The No. 17 Iowa State wrestling team (2-2, 0-0 Big 12) fell to No. 2 Iowa (6-0, 1-0 Big 10) at Hilton Coliseum on Sunday afternoon by a score of 33-6.

Sophomore Dante Rodriguez put the Cyclones on the board in the second match of the dual. He faced Iowa's Logan Ryan in the matchup at 141-pounds. After one period, the bout was scoreless. Rodriguez broke the tie with an early second period escape and then stretched his lead to 3-0 with a takedown with 33 ticks remaining in the period.

Ryan scrapped back with a reversal to begin the third, but Rodriguez shook free for an escape and tacked on another takedown to solidify the win, 6-2.

Redshirt senior Tanner Weatherman also grabbed a win in the first half of the dual. The Huxley, Iowa native, defeated Iowa's Patrick Rhoads by 10-9 dec.

Weatherman went to work early in this one, taking a 9-5 lead midway through the third. Rhoads fought back, bringing the match to a one-point difference with a last-second takedown, but Weatherman was ultimately able to fend him off to get the win for the Cyclones.

Iowa State travels to Las Vegas, Nev. next weekend to take on the field at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. The tournament will take place on Dec. 4-5.
