AMES, Iowa –No. 4 Iowa State (9-0) defeated Arkansas Pine-Bluff (2-8), 78-64 Sunday night in Hilton Coliseum.
Five Cyclones scored in double figures, led by Jameel McKay's 18 points. Matt Thomas added 17 points, connecting on 5-of-8 from 3-point range, and Monte' Morris recorded his third double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 assists.
Hallice Cooke tied his season high with 11 points.
Iowa State picked at Arkansas-Pine Bluff's zone, drilling 12 3-pointers (12-24 3FG/50%) and assisting on 23 of 27 field goals. It marked the third time this season where ISU made 12 or more 3-pointers in a game.
ISU tallied a season-high 11 steals in the win and made 85.7 percent of its shots at the line, equaling its season high.
How it Happened
Iowa State led 39-30 at the break.
Eight of ISU's 10 field goals in the first half were from long range, as Thomas continued his hot streak by making 3-of-5 from downtown to lead ISU with nine first-half points.
It marked the second time this season where ISU made eight treys in a half.
The Cyclones would have led by more, but nine miscues in the opening period allowed the Golden Lions to hang around.
Iowa State jumped ahead by 14 points early in the second half, but back-to-back 3-pointers by Ghiavonni Robinson and JoVaughn Love cut the lead to 52-44 with 14:09 left in the game.
The game hovered around 10 points until the Cyclones went on a 10-2 run to go up 70-54 with 5:07 left in the game.

Matt Thomas: Matt Thomas picked up where left off after the Iowa game by scoring 17 points behind a 5-of-8 effort from 3-point range. Thomas is now 11-of-17 from downtown (64.7 pct.) in the last two games. The junior also grabbed four rebounds and tied his career high with four assists.
