AMES, Iowa – Iowa State's Monté Morris and Georges Niang have been named to The Naismith Trophy and Oscar Robertson Trophy watch lists, announced Wednesday by the Atlanta Tipoff Club and USBWA, respectively.
Morris and Niang have led the fifth-ranked Cyclones to a 6-0 record this season.
Morris, a junior point guard from Flint, Michigan, is second on the team behind Niang averaging 15.3 points per game. He is leading the Big 12 with 6.7 assists per game and 15th nationally with a 5.13 assist-to-turnover ratio. Morris has been in double figures all six games this season and was named the Most Outstanding Player at the Emerald Coast Classic.
Niang, a senior from Methuen, Massachusetts, is averaging a team-best 16.5 points per game. He is also averaging a career-high 5.7 rebounds while dishing out 3.5 assists per game. Niang has scored in double figures in all six games this season and is sixth nationally among active Division I players with 1,609 career points.
Morris, Niang and the Cyclones return to action Monday, Dec. 7 against Buffalo at 8 p.m. on ESPNU.
