AMES, Iowa –No. 11 Iowa State (11-1) defeated Coppin State (2-13), 104-84 Wednesday night in Hilton Coliseum. Monte' Morris recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 assists, helping the Cyclones enter league play with one or zero losses for just the ninth time since 1950.
Six Cyclones scored in double figures, led by Abdel Nader's 21 points, his second 20-point outing of the season. Georges Niang added 15 points and a team-high nine boards in the win.
How it Happened
Iowa State wasted little time seizing control, scoring the first 12 points of the game. The Cyclones later went on an 11-0 run to go up 28-8 with 9:20 left in the opening period. Matt Thomas started the run with a 3-pointer and Niang added pair of buckets.
The Cyclones maintained their 20-point lead at 41-21 until a 6-0 run by Coppin State cut the ISU lead to 41-27 with under two minutes remaining before the break.
ISU led 49-33 at intermission. CSU was hanging on by going 8-of-15 from 3-point range in the first half.
Morris had 10 assists at the break.
ISU stretched its lead to 66-41 with 13:48 left in the game, as Morris, Nader and Jameel McKay all tallied four points to begin the second half to provide ISU with a 25-point cushion.
CSU never really threatened the rest of the way, but prevented the blowout by draining 17 3-pointers, one shy from the Hilton Coliseum record.
Cyclone of Note: Monte' Morris. Morris, who entered the game fifth in the nation in assists per game, dished out 10+ assists for the fourth time this season with 11 dimes. He also chipped in with 10 points to give him his fourth double-double of the year. Morris became just the ninth player in school history to reach 400 assists in a career with 405. He flirted with ISU's 42-year-old single-game assist record (16 by Eric Heft in 1974) by handing out 10 assists in the first half.

*Iowa State went 7-0 at home in the non-conference, increasing its streak of non-conference home victories to 34, the second-best streak in school history.
