AMES, Iowa - Greg Brabenec has been tabbed Director of Football Operations at Iowa State after serving in a similar role on Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell's staff at Toledo from 2014-15.
“Greg and I have been together for a long time,” Campbell said. “His organization, leadership and relationships with the players has always been at the utmost professional level. He's got a great understanding of the culture we are trying to build here at Iowa State.”
At Toledo, Brabenec coordinated most non-coaching aspects of the Rocket football program, including budget, team travel and team meals.
“I've known Matt for a really long time and there is no one else in this business like him,” Brabenec said. “The only reason I got into this business was because of him. I had the opportunity to witness his growth and maturation as a coach, and I am honored to be here at Iowa State to continue working with him.”
Brabenec also spent two seasons as a graduate assistant coach for the Rockets, working primarily with the defense.
Brabenec served an undergraduate student assistant with the Bowling Green football program from 2007-10, earning his bachelor's degree in sport management in 2011. In 2011, he coached outside linebackers at Lindsey Wilson College (KY).
Brabenec attended Olmsted Falls High School (OH) where he played football and baseball.
