AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State men's golf team added a member to its roster for the spring season in sophomore Denzel Ieremia. Ieremia, who transferred from Waikato University in New Zealand, will be eligible for competition in the spring.
Ieremia, who hails from Hamilton, New Zealand, will be a huge addition to ISU's lineup with numerous accomplishments under his belt. The sophomore has been a member of the New Zealand national squad for the past three years as well as being a contributor on the Waikato interprovincial team which won back-to-back national titles.
On an individual note, Ieremia grabbed a national title at the 2015 South Island Stroke Play, clinched a win at the Cambridge Classic, notched a fourth place finish at the New Zealand Stroke Play and finished second at the North Island Under 19's.
“I am very excited for Denzel to join our program in January,” Iowa State head men's golf coach Andrew Tank said. “As a member of the New Zealand national squad, he comes from a high-performance environment. Denzel will bring passion and a winning mentality to our lineup and I expect him to make an immediate positive impact on our program,”
Ieremia is currently ranked at No. 358 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and is eighth on the New Zealand Golf Order of Merit.
