NEW ORLEANS – The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its 2014 All-Academic honorees Wednesday afternoon, recognizing Matin Coolidge of the Iowa State men's cross country team and Katy Moen of the women's cross country squad. Both earned the recognition from the USTFCCCA for the second consecutive year.
Coolidge, a Geological and Atmospheric Sciences major, earned All-Big 12 and All-Midwest Region honors for the second straight season with a 14-th place finish at the 2014 Big 12 Cross Country Championships. Coolidge's efforts at the Big 12 Championships helped lead the Cyclones to a third-place finish in the team competition. At the NCAA Midwest Regional, Coolidge took 18th place to earn his All-Region recognition.
Moen, an Elementary Education major, was one of the crucial cogs to the Iowa State women earning second place at the 2014 NCAA Cross Country Championships. The senior from Fairbank, Iowa joined Crystal Nelson in the top-10 at the NCAA Championships with an eighth-place finish in 20:10.5. It wrapped up a busy season for Moen, who added a fourth-place effort at the NCAA Midwest Regional, a runner-up finish to teammate Nelson at the Big 12 Championships and top-five finishes at the Roy Griak Invitational and the Wisconsin adidas Invitational.
Both the men's and women's teams earned All-Academic accolades as well, posting team GPA's of 3.04 and 3.45 respectively.
