AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State men's golf team is prepped and ready for the 2015 NCAA Bremerton Regional. The Cyclones earned the No. 7 seed at the Regional, May 14-16 at the Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash.
The Cyclones, ranked 40th nationally by Golfweek, are making their 10th NCAA Regional appearance in school history (1991, 1992, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2012, 2014, 2015) and their third in the last four seasons.
Iowa State head coach Andrew Tank has taken the Cyclone men's golf program to the next level during his five-year tenure. In the last four years, the Cyclones have produced five All-Big 12 players, two All-Americans, nine individual medalists, two tournament titles and qualified for three NCAA Regionals.
Tank also returns every player from last year's team which qualified for its first NCAA Championship in 61 years. The Cyclones are hoping to make it back there again.
The Gold Mountain Golf Club will feature a par-72 layout and will play at 7,168 yards. The course rating is at 74.1.
The five lowest team scores and low individual not among the top-five teams at each of the six regionals will advance to the NCAA Championship, May 29-June 3 at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla.
Iowa State is led by the senior duo of Scott Fernandez and Sam Daley. Fernandez, ranked 71st nationally by Golfweek, brings a wealth of experience to the postseason as just the second Cyclone in school history to play in four NCAA Regionals. Fernandez owns a team-low 71.71 stroke average for the season and holds the top spot for career stroke average at 72.05. He recorded one of his school-record 29 top-10 finishes at the 2014 NCAA Columbia Regional (T6th).
Daley is perhaps the hottest Cyclone heading into NCAA Regional action. Daley is coming off of two runner-up finishes in the last four tournaments (Desert Shootout and Hawkeye Invitational) and a 15th-place finish at the Big 12 Championship. Daley is third on the team in stroke average at 73.35.
Sophomore Nick Voke, ranked 102nd nationally by Golfstat, has rebounded in incredible fashion after missing postseason play last year with an injury. Voke is second on the team in stroke average at 72.26. His four top-10 finishes on the year includes two tournament victories (VCU Shootout and General Hackler Championship). He earned Big 12 All-Tournament honors by tying for 10th at the Big 12 Championship.
