Cyclones Take Second At Oz Memorial Run

The Iowa State women's cross country team finished second at the Oz Memorial Run in Falcon Heights, Minn. at Les Bolstad Course on Friday.
Running without returning All-American Crystal Nelson and a number of other key returners, head coach Andrea Grove-McDonough's squad still pushed a strong Minnesota squad, ranked No. 27 nationally, on its home course. Redshirt freshman Abby Caldwell, running in the first collegiate cross country meet of her career, led the Cyclones with a third-place finish overall (21:56.8) in the 6-kilometer race.
Sophomore Maryn Lowry was next across the finish line, taking fourth in 22:17.4, followed by senior Andrea Toppin, who finished sixth in 22:26.0. Evelyne Guay (10th – 22:44.4) and Katherine DeSimone (15th – 22:55.9) rounded out the Iowa State scoring effort. Guay is coming off a strong debut in which she took first place at the Hawkeye Early Bird Invitational 3K a week ago.
Three additional freshmen also took the course for the Cyclones, as Anne Frisbie (23rd – 23:08.9), Kelly Naumann (28th – 23:29.0) and Erin Norton (35th – 24:05.9) continue their first cross country season in the Cardinal & Gold.
The Cyclones finished with 37 team points, placing all five scoring runners in the top-15. The five Iowa State scorers all finished within a minute of each other..

The Cyclone women return to action on Saturday, September 26 at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn. The women's race is set for 12:20 p.m. CT.
