AMES, Iowa - B&G Productions and Cyclones.tv have collaborated on several memorable projects. Now, one of them has been recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. “I Will - The Jack Trice Story,” is one of just two finalists for a Midwest Emmy Award in the Sports Documentary category.
“It's been a blessing and an honor to bring the Jack Trice story to light in a new way,” B&G co-owner Jeff Grummer said. “It's always great to work with the people at Cyclones.tv, who deserve a ton of credit. They are first rate in every way. It's humbling for all of us to be recognized by the Academy.”
“Every person at Cyclones.tv contributed in some way to this team project,” said Tom Kroeschell of Cyclones.tv, who wrote and co-produced the documentary with Grummer. “Jeff Grummer and Rod Bodholt at B&G are like our staff at Cyclones.tv, Iowa State lifers who have a full appreciation for the legacy of Iowa State University and Cyclone athletics.
We were also fortunate to profit from the participation of the late Iowa State professor Dr. Dorothy Schwieder, who was the preeminent authority on the history of our state. Iowa State University Library reference specialist Becky Jordan and Jack Trice historian Steve Jones, both Iowa State graduates and employees, added unique and vital perspectives. John Walters' narration was perfect. Iowa State professor emeritus Tom Emmerson is another Iowa State lifer with a fascinating first-hand perspective on Trice's life. Ultimately, Jack Trice's life is a uniquely compelling story.”
Kroeschell recognized the Special Collections Department of the Iowa State University Library and Iowa State Athletics Communications for their assistance in providing relevant images and films.
“The professional efforts of both Athletics Communications and Special Collections as gatekeepers of Iowa State's historic narrative are a daily credit to the University.”
The Upper Midwest Regional Emmy Awards Ceremony will be held on Oct. 3, at the Radisson Blu Hotel at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn.
Cyclones.tv and B&G Productions are producing an extended version of the documentary, with perspectives from key members of the Iowa State community.
