AMES, Iowa - After starting the season with a 2-1 weekend at home, the Iowa State volleyball team takes its first road trip of 2015 this weekend. The Cyclones will head to Charlottesville, Va. for the Fairfield Inn & Suites Cavalier Classic, hosted by the Unviersity of Virginia.
Action for the Cyclones starts Friday afternoon when ISU takes on Appalachian State at 3 p.m. Central Time inside Memorial Gymnasium. Saturday features a doublheader for Iowa State, with a match against VCU at 11 a.m. CT, and the night cap against hosts Virginia at 6 p.m. CT.
Tickets to the matches can be bought at the door at Memorial Gymnasium. There will only be live video for the Cyclones' match against hosts Virginia, and that will be provided via UVA's subscription-based service Cavaliers Live. For more info, click

Cyclone Headlines
- The Iowa State volleyball team makes its first road trip of 2015 this weekend, heading East to take part in the Fairfield Inn and Suites Cavalier Classic hosted by the University of Virginia.
- ISU starts the tournament on Friday with a 3 p.m. CT meeting against Appalachian State. The Cyclones close the weekend with a doubleheader, taking on VCU at 11 a.m. and hosts Virginia at 6 p.m.
- The Cyclones started the regular season hosting the Cyclone Invitational last weekend, going 2-1. After picking up four-set wins over Dayton and North Dakota, ISU fell in straight sets to Marquette.
- The Cyclone offense saw true freshman Jess Schaben take the most swings on the weekend, posting 32 kills at 2.91 kps. Schaben was one of four true freshmen to see time at the Cyclone Invite, as Hannah Bailey, Grace Lazard and Abby Phillips also made ISU debuts.
- The Iowa State defense continued to be led by Caitlin Nolan. A 2014 AVCA All-American and Big 12 Libero of the Year, the senior finished the weekend with 56 digs at 5.09 dps.
- Redshirt sophomore middle blocker Samara West had the best match of her career against North Dakota. The Omaha native led ISU with a career-high 14 kills at a career-best .600 hitting percentage while also contributing five total blocks.
- ISU will be looking to get its offense on track this weekend. The Cyclones currently sit at the bottom of the Big 12 with its .159 team hitting percentage. Morgan Kuhrt and Mackenzie Bigbee are both hitting below .100.
- The Cyclones are coming off their ninth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Volleyball Championship, advancing to the second round before falling to No. 10 Illinois on the Illini's home court.
