How it Happened
Iowa State took advantage of a 7:30 minute scoring drought from Kansas State in the first half to mount an early lead. During the KSU slump, ISU scored 15-straight points to go ahead 26-9 with 5:04 remaining in the opening period.
Jordan Ashton had five points in the run, including a 3-pointer.
The Wildcats finally found the basket, going on a 14-4 run to cut the lead to 30-23. However, Morris hit a jumper at the horn to give the Cyclones a 32-23 lead at intermission.
Both teams traded baskets at the beginning of the second half. Nader allowed the Cyclones to increase their lead to 13 points (48-35) with 14:47 left in the game behind a 3-pointer and a dunk off a steal.
KSU countered with an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 50-45 at the 9:37 mark, as the Cyclones went four minutes without a basket. Niang then hit a big 3-pointer followed by a Jameel McKay dunk and a Nader drive, and suddenly ISU was back up by 12 points (57-45) behind a 7-0 run.
The Wildcats trimmed the lead to seven points, but Morris then answered with a contested 3-pointer to give ISU a 64-54 advantage with 4:16 left in the game.
ISU coasted the rest of the way by draining its final 10 free-throw attempts.
