FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 19 Iowa State (15-4, 4-3 Big 12) shot 54.0 percent from the field en route to a 73-60 victory over TCU (9-10, 1-6 Big 12) Saturday afternoon at the Schollmaier Arena.
Monte' Morris led the way with 18 points, as the Cyclones won their third-straight Big 12 game and their second in a row on the road. Morris, who also dished out six dimes, was 7-of-11 from the floor. Matt Thomas (5-8 FG) added 15 points, knocking down 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.
The Cyclones made 8-of-15 3-pointers in the win, their seventh in a row vs. the Horned Frogs since TCU joined league.
How it Happened
TCU led 17-13 through the first 10 minutes of the game until a scoring drought helped the Cyclones forge a lead. ISU implemented a zone, flustering the Horned Frogs into nine turnovers in a seven-minute period. ISU went on a 13-2 run during that span, capped off by a Thomas trey to give ISU a 26-19 lead with 4:42 left in the period.
Abdel Nader then gave the Cyclones a 37-28 lead at the break when he buried a contested 3-pointer at the horn. TCU had 11 first-half turnovers, but the Cyclones also turned it over 10 times. Deonte Burton came off the bench to score seven points at the half.
A stretch of six consecutive field goals made helped the Cyclones move ahead 52-34 with 14:30 left in the game. Thomas hit back-to-back 3-pointers in an 8-2 run to help ISU take control.
TCU trimmed it to 11 points at 54-43, but Georges Niang and Nader answered with back-to-back lay-ins on nifty passes from Morris to put ISU in front 58-43 with 10 minutes left.
The Cyclones maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.
Cyclone of Note: Monte' Morris. The junior point guard continued his torrid play by scoring 18 points and dishing out six assists in the road win vs. TCU. Morris, who was 7-of-11 from the floor, is now 29-of-44 (65.9 pct.) from the field in his last four games.
