How it Happened
Iowa State jumped out to an early 20-8 lead by doing a great job cracking the Baylor zone. A 7-0 run by the Bears cut the deficit to 20-15 with 9:27 left in the opening period. Motley got the hot hand for BU, scoring 11 points to help the road team inch closer.
Niang stopped the run with a trey and did a great job finding creases in the zone by handing out four assists early, as the Cyclones went up 27-21 with 6:08 left in the opening period.
The ISU lead grew to eight points before BU trimmed it down to four points at the half (38-34).
Niang came out of the break hot, scoring seven points to increase the Cyclone lead to 50-40 with 16:48 left in the game. Baylor quickly erased the Cyclone lead, however, with 11-straight points to knot the score at 58-58 with 11:44 left in the contest. Back-to-back three-pointers by Lester Medford and Taurean Waller-Prince jumpstarted the run for the Bears.
After both teams traded baskets for the next four minutes, Medford gave the Bears their first lead of the game (68-67) on a trey with 8:05 left in the contest.
After ISU briefly regained the lead, Medford hit a trey and followed it up with a conventional 3-point play to give the Bears an 80-73 lead with 3:14 left in the contest.
ISU tried to come back, cutting the lead to two points (91-89) with 0:13 seconds left, but the Bears made their free-throws down the stretch, hitting 12-of-14 shots at the charity stripe in the final minute.
