Hooker Leads ISU Women To Top-10 Finish At Wisconsin

MADISON, Wisconsin - The Iowa State women's cross country team took on perhaps the nation's strongest cross country meet of the regular season this year at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational on Friday, utilizing a strong finish to take eighth place. Junior Erin Hooker led the charge, finishing the 6K race in 14th place with a time of 20:28.8.
The Cyclones, who were in 17th place at the race's 2,000-meter checkpoint, surged late to climb their way up the team rankings and earn the top-10 finish. Iowa State was among 17 nationally-ranked programs to run in the Wisconsin Invitational's women's championship race.
Following Hooker were senior Perez Rotich and sophomore Anne Frisbie, who came across the finish line together. Rotich took 51st place in 20:59.3, while Frisbie finished 53rd in 20:59.5. Junior Bethanie Brown was Iowa State's fourth top-100 finisher, as she clocked a 21:16.6 to place 87th. It was Brown's first cross country meet in nearly two years, dating back to a 53rd-place finish at the 2014 NCAA Champoinship.
Sophomore Evelyne Guay rounded out the Iowa State scoring effort, placing 104th in a time of 21:29.2. Also appearing for the Cyclones were Kelly Naumann (143rd – 21:50.9) and Maryn Lowry (175th – 22:19.3).
Additionally, Iowa State entered six runners into Friday's women's open competition at the Wisconsin Invitational. Abby Caldwell led the way for the Cyclones in that race, finishing 17th with a time of 21:55.2. Complete results from that race are listed below.
